National Broadband Network (NBN), by now many of you would have seen or heard of the NBN – recently an update was released announcing the plans for the next 3 years.

The NBN – is essentially project aimed at constructing a high speed internet (fibre optic) network on the Gold Coast. The plan for the next three years is to focus on the specific areas – laying the fibre optic cables and allowing homes and businesses in this area to get connected to the high speed internet network.

Why is this important – well as you may know – more and more of what we do in our businesses relies on the internet and with many companies moving their applications to the Cloud – it will become more and more essential for business to be connected to go about their daily work. If any of you were around when dial up internet was around you will remember how slow and frustrating it could be – often taking minutes for an internet page to load (and I mean – get up and make a cup of coffee – while you wait for an internet page to load slow). Having a fibre optic cable will mean super-fast internet. And let’s face it, in today’s high paced, jam packed world, being able to do things faster and more efficiently will definitely help to get that pile of to do’s done.

The main areas that will be benefiting from the 3 year roll out plan are:

  • Southport
  • Labrador
  • Main Beach
  • Molendinar
  • Surfers Paradise
  • Bundall
  • Ashmore
  • Benowa
  • Nerang
  • Gilston
  • Highland Park
  • Broadbeach
  • Broadbeach Waters
  • Miami
  • Mermaid Waters
  • Mermaid Beach
  • Clear Island Waters
